Blog entryBlue Chip's first NHL Blog

81 games have been played by every NHL team, and I've seen none of them.  Tonight, I will flip the switch and begin to watch what is arguably the most exciting brand of playoffs out there, the NHL Playoffs.  I know the post season hasn't started yet, and it's just the last day if the regular season, but there is a lot on the table tonight including:

1) The Presidents Trophy - Awarded to the team with the most points in the regular season.  (Half of you probably don't even know how the point system works)

2) The SouthEast Division - Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals

3) The Pacific Division - Phoenix Coyotes, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings

I normally don't care to write about hockey, because I am a casual fan and have only been a fan for about 10 years.  But with social media (Facebook and Twitter) consuming my life, I have seen a lot more discussion about hockey in the southern california area, which was not the case even 5 years ago.

Tonights matchup between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings is quite possibly for the division title,  but the rivalry goes deeper then that.  It's a classic NorCal v SoCal matchup with these two facing each other in the first round of the playoffs last season (Sharks won in 6).

I am proud to say that I am a fan of Hockey.  I'm also a fan of the San Jose Sharks.  I must say it it's weird having grown up a fan of most L.A. teams, and having to chant Beat LA when the Kings visit the Shark Tank.  But hockey has such a history, and with it's popularity rising, there is no way I'm jumping ship now.

So if you haven't jumped on the hockey bandwagon, grab a chair and enjoy….Go Sharks! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
